Could someone tell me what the general concensus is now regarding IP's and checking your AdSense stats.

I thought there was a general train of thought that you needed to be consistent with what ISP you used to check your adsense stats (although the reason escapes me). Right now I check them using a nation wide dial up service. I would assume that my IP address is not the same (dynamic) each time I check my stats even though I always call using the same phone line and computer.

Now I have a new computer that has a WiFi card. I was thinking when I travel I could stop at coffee houses and check my AdSense stats. Am I setting myself up for trouble?

I wouldn't worry about it at all, if the connection is secure.

only if you think this will let you start clicking on your own ads.

Jenstar I think he is speaking about (possibly) being dropped from Adsense because of various sign in access points.

Seems a couple months ago people were claiming there were dropped from program after signing in on differnt computers.. grain of salt but it still makes people nervous.

I just got back from vacation last week and I know I passed the thought around once or twice as I was checking my adsense account .. paranoia ..it's a wonderful thing ..not lol

dauction,
Yes, that's what I was referring to. Any truth to the myth?

Broadway .. I highly doubt it... I signed in from a resort last year , from different states this year..I dont see a problem. You can always fill out an adsense form letting them know you a re using another computer..at least then it wont be on your mind.

I really can't imagine Google penalizing people for checking stats from various computers.

I think the fear of being dropped is really reaching epic levels - if you do a good volume and are a good partner to Google you have nothing to worry about.

Sometimes when my cable goes out (or is connected to my Mac and I'm on my PC) I'll check my stats using dial-up. I don't do this often, but have done it occasionally. It never occured to me that this would be a problem. Of course now I feel paranoid.

But really, it seems nonsensical. Why would Google care? What if you are a traveling salesman and are never in the same place for too long? What if you are traveling around the country in an RV and checking your stats from a library? Are you destined to never have an account with Google? If that is the case, they should say so up front, and not waste the time of traveling salesmen and people who travel around in RVs.

It doesn't make a lot of sense.

I can't imagine them only expecting you to check stats from one IP. That would be foolish (and not very well thought out).

The case I believe you were thinking of is someone who logged into both his account and his employers account from the same IP daily. His account was suspended, and his employers account was suspended by association. I have not heard of any other "suspended by association" accounts from anyone logging in under various IPs while traveling.

With traveling though, I can't see it being a major issue. I travel frequently and login all over the place (with the exception of being at WebmasterWorld conference hotels ;) )

I am under strong impression, that accessing your stats from different computer may look suspicious. I remember several discussions about this topic. Somebody even suggested using www.gotomypc.com service during traveling or vacation.

Is "Big Brother" really making everyone this paranoid?

If you search google you can find a little script that will download your stats for you. That means you have 1 IP going out to google when you tell it to (assuming your IP does not change that much). My server automatically uploads the report back to a secure site so I can view it anywere in the world, including the sandy beaches of cozumel from my laptop.

just a thought.

I think many publishers are addicted to stats check. We cannot imagine our life without it even on vacation.

I use go2mypc when I want to check from a site other than my home office. That way, if I check my stats from the browser on my home machine via the remote access, the IP to google will be from my home office and not the machine I am logged on to.

There is another small advantage to this, I believe. I have my browser at home set up to remember my passwords. That way, I don't have to type the password from an outside computer. I use Google's autofill function as well. That will reduce the chance of someone sniffing your uid and password to some extent.
