Is it possible to over optimize your adsense?

What CTR is too high?

You spend alot of time getting the colors just right, then you pick the right position on the page and then the ad size, etc., all in an effort to increase your CTR and money. You watch your CTR climb higher and higher every week. At what point should you stop?

For example let's assume there is an information page that sells nothing and has very few links for the user to click on, other than the attractive adsense display. Even with no fraudlent clicking going on the CTR will be very high. What is the highest CTR you would want? I'm thinking that a 100% CTR might just raise a flag at Google HQ and no one wants to take a risk with their adsense program. But we all want to maximize our money, so at what CTR do you stop optimizing, 30%, 40%, 60%?

As long as it would pass a quality review by the AdSense team, I wouldn't worry about stopping at a certain CTR level. The issue would be those few other links to click on to leave the page - is it logical for the site or could it be seen as a visible spam technique to increase CTR (ie. it is painfully obvious the publisher wants a single page view per visit, with the exit being AdSense).

Once you start doing stuff that would never pass a quality check that you could be jeopardizing your account, whether your CTR is .6% or 60%.
