AdSense and the Google browser

Will AdSense be integrated into the gbrowser?

of course it is only speculation that Google are building their own browser. [webmasterworld.com...]

However, what do people see as being the impact on adsense? Personally I can see adsense being integrated into the browser and therefore being shown on every page without the need to pay a publisher (perhaps in frames of some sort). Thoughts?

well, first off, google obviously isn't opposed to showing multiple ads. so an ad in the browser and an ad in the page itself doesn't seem all that radical.

but second... if google's browser got 10% of the market, that'd be absolutely huge. that'd be stomping firefox's success. but 10%, at the end of the day, really isn't all that much- they would continue letting publisher put up adsense ads, if only to exploit some of that remaining 90%.

Unless of course they change their mind-which they have every right to do. They may be running multi ads as a 3 month "pilot" to see how it works. It isn't just webmasters who will be comparing figures you know.

Perhaps multi ads won't work and G might take the view lets cut a deal with Microsoft & Netscape to have the adsense ads built in and cut the commision with them rather than a publisher. Then build up our share of the browser market, adding in toolbar, some fancy search etc. More control for them, probably higher share of the profits etc.

If AdSense was integrated into the browser (ala Opera) and they somehow had it that the publisher would earn the money for the clicks made through the integrated browser when AdSense is also running in the page in question, it could make for some pretty happy publishers. And it could prompt more publishers to sign up for AdSense, particularly if the Google browser gains popularity.

But if AdSense is integrated and Google is earning full clicks on sites that are already running AdSense, there could be some extremely unhappy publishers, just as there were when Opera launched their AdSense integrated browser.

The thing is if Google decided to do this, people don't like ads and probably wouldnt use a browser that brought even more advertisements onto their screen even if it was better than the others available.

If the worse case is realized it would only be a few days before the code world would come up with a way to block the browser ads.

What's in it for the end user? They can use IE, Firefox, Safari, Netscape, etc. without built-in ads. Why would they go for it, unless the browser had some particularly amazing features?

As no-one is suggesting Google are developing a browser from scratch, they would either have to base it on IE6 or Mozilla/Firefox - so the ad-free alternatives are there.

If google were to integrate adsense with the browser I doubt people will accept it. As it will cause privacy concerns. You will not like a security certificate ad appearing when you log in to your netbanking account.

Anyone has any data on adsense in browser clickthroughs as opposed to adsense in page?

In my case, I use Opera often, but have never even noticed the Adsense ads in the browser itself, nor ever clicked on them. ON the other hand, I have and often click on adsense in pages.

I don't think people are programmed to 'see' ads in the tool they use to browse, as against ads they see on where they browse.

Do you use the googletoolbar already. Because if you do, then G already give a warning about privacy. What would be the difference?

Methinks it will be an ad-serving browser.

In my opinion, Google will think bigger than Adsense, if they introduce a browser.

There are so many other money making opportunties in controlling a significant share of the browser market, so I think the whole point here is to diversify...

Of course another possibility is that instead of having a fixed banner type ad on the browser it could generate a code which will highlight text words similar to intelli**xt.

geez ... i hate intell*xt. and i don't go back to sites i visit that tricks me into thinking that the hyperlinked word leads to some meaningful content, and not some ad. i don't think G will go to that path. i have reported a number of sites simultaneously running on a page Adsense and that crap to G, and G's response has always been very quick.

If goooooooooooooogle do go ahead and release a web browser then I think it is inevitable that some kind of advertising (a la Opera) will be shown on it. They might market it as being a 'related sites' resource, but they will be ads whatever the name they give them.

I think it is also likely to impact on publishers revenues more than the Opera ads do as they are likely to get a larger share of the browser market than Opera have.

AdSense and the Google browser

I seriously doubt it.

Would you use an adsense-laden browser? I would... maybe... if it was like a loose slot machine and every XXXXXth page load won me a bundle of money ;)

I hope they don't add contextual ads like on Opera. Even on a site without Adsense, people may click on the Adsense ads instead of, for example, my affiliate links.

Even a browser with the Google Toolbar built in and without IE's security issues would do well for Google I think, without integrating Adsense into it.

Of course no-one said G were a charity so what would hurt some publishers isn't really a concern.

Have you never used opera? Quick browser, good options, reasonably secure. Ads-don't bother me at all. Would rather have quick secure browser.

I've installed it, but never use it. Regarding the gbrowser, there is a certain "separation of church and state" feeling I have that would preclude me ever using an ad-laden browser. Especially one from Google. I only ever use my gmail account for business, for much the same reasons.. Just me I guess..
