Are you allowed to display Overture contextual ads on an Adsense site?

... there is a major news site that seems to be doing it today

And, I've been told that they are not premium partners. But they have Adsense tower ads and an Overture rectangle.

They are not the type of guys to defy Adsense TOS (and they earn too much from it to take any chances). Has something changed?

No, nothing has changed. I am pretty sure that Overture also has a similar policy of no competing contextual advertisers on the same page as well.

However, I have seen many, many publishers getting away with running AdSense and one or two other contextual advertisers on the same page. There doesn't seem to be any enforecement of this part of the AdSense terms that I am aware of. Offhand, I cannot recall anyone being warned to remove competing contextual advertisers from the same page as AdSense.

i am not sure it is ok, but you can both adsense in one frame and overture in another frame, then include both in your html. then there is no competing ads on the same page.

if they are a 'major news site' they might get a special deal with both of them. Last time I talked with 'O' they insisted on exclusivity.

If they are both seen in the same single web browser window, I would say that would be considered competing ads on the same page, not matter how it is html coded.
