AdSense and Amazon

Do They "Compete" or What?

I am running AdSense on a few sites but we also want to post links to books with our referral in them. I notice that AdSense says you can't have ads from a competing service and I am unclear about if this means you can't run anything that could be considered an ad. We run a column on one site where the author includes his affiliate information in the links to books he recommends for additinal reading material and I hate to think that that puts us in violation.

Can somebody help me out with how broad this "competing ads" should be interpreted.

Thanks

Affiliate preograms are fine, adsense just doesn't want you to have another text ad serving likewise company.

I had been an Amazon Associate for years when I joined AdSense. I asked them to confirm that I could have text-based links to books on Amazon on the same page as AdSense code and they said "yes." The fact that the Amazon links don't LOOK like AdSense is key.

Thanks for the information. You all confirmed what I suspected but it's nice to be a little more certain.
