I hope Google will provide a web service function to let developers check the availability of AS ads.

Showing PSAs or our own Ads somethimes makes layout ugly and I hope they let us know using our account id check the avalibility of Ad through a simple web service.
Is there a service like that? if yes please let me know.
-thanks

AFAIK no such service exists or is being developed.

That is why they allow you to specify an alternate ad.

First off all you don't have to show PSAs - you can designate an alternative page to show if Google can't find ads for the change.

Secondly Google has a special Adsense Preview Tool that you can download from the adsense pages which will show you which ads will appear on any page with a right click - and you can specifically request adse for different countries as well- I don't live in the US, so the ads I see on my pages are much different than the ones people in the US see.

The point is layout.I don't have my own ads and at this moment display blank space instead of PSAs and if they provide such a service I will be able to control my page layout much better.

So when the alt ad page is called run a script on it to provide appropiate information.

Or, on each page, call a different alt ad for that section.

As I said I want to be able to display _nothing_ if there is no Ad.Now If I display a blank area still the space is taken.

That is too much of a wish list. Banner ads network have been in service for a long time -- and not a single one offers a service that allows you to detect non-paying ads (default ads). They simply serve you a default when they can't display a paying ad.

Just spend time looking for an alternative ad for your site - whether affiliate programs or other banner ad networks.

I use alternates but don't display ads per se, I just develop an attractive page element, like a logo or something informational, that can be displayed selectively in the space available. Works great.

Why not just display the PSA's? They are usually for good causes.

Your alternate does not have to be an ad you can have it link to something in your site.

well, how about running a script as an alternate ad, which would count number of PSAs displayed for each page of your website. Then you can set up a limit depending on volume of your traffic. For example if alternate ad was displayed 10 times for this specific url, media bot has probably already been there but it wasn't possible to find fitting ad. so you can consider this url as one showing PSAa. Or you can count number of alternate ad displays for specific time period to make it more reliable

Simple solution: Rethink your site design.
