Are you going to opt out?

Hey all, I'll also make a longer post in a minute, but I just wanted to let people in this thread know that based on the initial feedback, we're going to pause the related searches feature until we can give publishers more options/flexibility with it. I think that it should be paused very soon (probably later today).

Yep - and for all those who doubted GG worked for Google - here is your proof.

I am happy to hear that Google listens. Makes me more confident in the company.

Great News :)

I believe the related search links were akin to having a "buy now" button and a "shop other sites" button placed beside each other… Can’t see how this could possibly help advertisers using AdWords…

GoogleGuy promised:

we're going to pause the related searches feature until we can give publishers more options/flexibility with it.

promises are good, but facts are better.

I don't understand "options/flexibility" - it is too vague to mean anything.

Hey, we try to get everything exactly right the first time, but we're always happy to take feedback and act on it quickly to make sure we do better. :)

I made a new thread, and I'll post over there if I get more info that AdSense people would be interested to hear..

Thank you GG. Does that stand for "This blank page brought to you by Google" as well?

Personally I think the blank page stunt is more about bringing attention to the adsense then anything else, because that blank space is less likely to be ignored than having an ad! But it doesn't look that professional.

Clark, I think that the charity ads will return instead of the blank space too. I'm poking around for more details now, and I'll post in the new thread if I find out more.

I am not showing any blank space ads at all now, just charity ads.

GoogleGuy, personally, the charity ads are okay with me... however, I think if google's aim is to allow users to see and click on ads instead of just skipping over them:

1) color modifications is a giant step in that direction. since everyone can do their own schemes, you don't get accustomed to one grouping of colors and skim over them. It also allows webmasters to design ads that look like part of their site, so the users look around ... navigation, content, ads, all fit in together.

2) I think charity ads are a step in the wrong direction as it presents ads that (usually) has no baring on the web site, and teaches people to ignore the ads.

JMHO.

Not just make people ignor the ads, even having some "negative" impact on business-related sites, just like ours.

Wow, we were so upset when we saw the "related searches" on our site. And google people told us they thought it was "a service to our users," which made me apoplectic. I started to believe all the google-is-big-brother stuff. Thank you sooooo much for restoring my hope and faith in google! We can make this internet thing work together. Awesome.
