aggregate data doesn't match channel data

I can't tell if I'm missing some pages in channels

The total of all my channel is less than the aggregate total for the same period. I thought I had all of my adsense in one channel or another and have tried to find what might be missing.

Is it common for these two totals to be different? I have to decide if I need to go through page by page and check each channel number.

I often check my channel settings via:

# grep google_ad_channel *

I'm kind of dense. Could you explain more on how to do that?

Thanks much.

On UNIX systems, grep is a command which checks a file for a string, for one.

Thus "grep google_ad_channel *" checks all files in the local directory for the line google_ad_channel, and displays the results.

To use this you'd need cmd line access where you host, and it would help if it were a UNIX system :-)

I ran AdSense ads for 2-3 weeks on my homepage, in a separate channel. This was back in April, soon after channels became available. I am STILL seeing a handful of impressions each day for that channel, even though the ad code hasn't been showing for 2 months.

I don't know if this is due to web caches of my homepage, or individual browser caches showing an out-of-date page, or spider activity, or what. But my conclusion is that due to uncontrollable factors the AdSense channel impressions/clicks may not precisely match the aggregate totals.

Thanks,

bnhall, I'll have to get my dear (but grumpy about doing computer stuff for me) hubby to look at that for me. He understands the computer while I understand websites.

jomaxx, Your info makes me think I'll wait a while before I try to trace down the discrepancy.

"The total of all my channel is less than the aggregate total for the same period."

I have the same situation, but with WebSearch. I only place the search box on 3 pages, which all have channels.

When I check my stats the aggregate impressions are higher than the combined channel impressions. The difference varies by as much as 25%.
