On Floating Ads

Using css, I have a sidebar on one of my sites that floats along the side as the user scrolls. There is also Adsense ads in this bar. Does anyone know if this would be against the TOS or not?

You should contact Google directly - publishers were getting mixed answers on whether it was permitted or not.

I figured out how to do it using css with Mozilla/Firefox, but (a little off topic) does anyone know how it's done in IE (if it is possible)?

From what I remember I used the div tag.... course I got the remarks (I think from Jenstar) about floating Adsense ads being like a salesman following you around the store!

However when they move into position it attracts people's eye to them...

I'm not sure what Google's takes are on them - I'm sure some they would class as popups and therefore against the T&Cs - I suppose they authorise them on a case by case basis.

Also remember that you can't conceal any part of the ad under google's ToS. On some browsers with small screen resolutions part of the ad might be concealed if you opt to make them float, (unless you use the smaller ad sizes), and therefore might be in conflict with ToS.

Sorry about the delay, but I was out of town for a few days. Here is Google's reply:

"We understand the importance of maintaining the quality of your site and your site's user experience. We currently offer a number of ad formats, however we do not allow AdSense participants to move the ads around a page
as you have described."
