How does AdSense define a popup?

What if you click and it targets a new window..

Is that a pop up? Anyone have a URL which clearly states this?

I googled it out of curiosity. I see a lot of articles explaining why JavaScript is better than using target attribute for pop-ups. Maybe this is the difference G looks for?

I found this article.

If you read between the lines, it's suggested that it's the JavaScript that makes is a pop-up rather than just a new window.

Apologies, I should have provided some context.

Ad Placement

Multiple ad units may be displayed on each Web site page, but no ad unit shall contain any advertisement in common
with any other ad unit.

No AdWords ads or Google search box may be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, error, registration, or "thank you" pages, or in any email.

I am thinking of putting a search box in a newly targeted window. Not sure if that's ok, however..

I don't see how using target="_new" would be considered a pop-up. IMO, everyone knows what a pop-up is. They're the ones that "p" you off when they come up. And they don't necessarily go away very easily. Opening a new window with legitimate content is not the issue. I still would guess that it's JS that would tip G off to pop-ups.

Assuming you are talking about a Google WebSearch box, then according to Jenstar "The search box has to be placed on a page with content related to your site." I don't think they want you opening a searchbox in a new blank page.

I did see Google saying something along those same lines, but unfortunately there is such a multiplicity of informational documents now that I can't find where that was.
