Setting up new site with Adsense

in www.widgets.com/red

Hi - I have an existing site using Adsense, selling, let's say, green widgets. The site's URL is for example www.widgets.com. I have now decided to create a specialized site for only red widgets, and I've created the site in www.widgets.com/red/.

Problem is, the Adsense ads on the /red/ site are only for green widgets, even though the word "green" never occurs on the /red/ site.

Is Adsense just assuming that the content of the www.widgets.com/red/ site is green widgets like www.widgets.com?

As soon as I put Adsense on the /red/ site, googlebot visited to look at it. I assumed it would realize the site is all about /red/ widgets, and display ads accordingly, but I'm still just getting green widget ads.

Is something wrong or does it take Adsense a little more time to figure out that the widgets are red instead of green?

I should mention that I have put the site up in the last 2-3 hours.

Thanks, hope the green vs. red isn't too confusing.

How about changing the structure to:

widget.com/red-widget/

I would much rather use the above as a helpful nudge to the smartbot.

On the other hand, ads do take a while to get somewhat targeted.

Give AdSense a day or two, and you should begin to see targeted ads (assuming that targeted ads are available for the topic). Sometimes targeted ads begin displaying within minutes or hours, but you can't count on that.

Could also be that green widget advertisers are targeting red widget keywords. Or that ads for just the keyword "widget" are being bid at the highest amount by green widget advertisers.

Could also be theming at work, and has been suggested, you will see better targeted ads within a week or two.

I've seen the same thing on a directory type web site with many different subjects. This problem tends to come and go, but it gets better over time. Don't worry until after a week or two.

Besides advertisers targeting broad keywords (widget), it may also have to do with the red widget ads running out of budget (this is just speculation).

I just set up a page on log cabin quilts. I have no idea how to convince Google that quilters aren't planning to build a log cabin in the woods. Nor do they want to buy compost toilets for their log cabin quilts!
