I am ectatic about Adsense! I want to do everything I can to maximize my return, and I ESPECIALLY want to make sure I do it with a white hat.
I have loved Google ever since I discovered it around 1999. I love the way they do business. I love the way they innovate. And now I love Adsense.
I am planning to add LOTS of pages that contain ads. I want to make the most of this. As I add these pages, I plan to make sure they have unique content, and that they are targeting specific phrases. At the same time, I want to show pages that are helpful to the user.
I have BIG plans. The last thing I want to see happen is to get banned. What are some of the common pitfalls?
And what can I do to make sure that I keep Google happy.
I think I said this already, but I LOVE GOOGLE! Not only would I be disappointed to lose the income that Adsense provides, I think the worst blow would be to have favorite company in the whole world ban me.
I feel confident that I have done everything possible to make sure that I am doing it by the book. I have RTM.
Is there anything I need to avoid or be careful about?
Here are a few of my concerns:
1) I login to Adsense on multiple computers. I don't really know if other people might be clicking on my ads, but likely not.
2) I sometimes have developers (from other countries) do work on my websites. Should I make a practice of telling them not to click on the ads.
3) I have ads on some discussion forums. I made a point to tell my moderator team not to click on the ads. Before adsense I relied on donations. I made it clear that clicking on the ads was not equal to making a donation.
4) To the best of my knowledge, I have accidentally clicked on a total of two ads. I was actually trying to highlight a URL so I could cut and paste...didn't work!
5) There are a couple of rarely visited pages that have two ad sets on the page. The pages are dynamically produced, and I haven't figured out how to fix it. Is this a big deal? The ads are not right next to each other.
If there is ANYTHING that is even slightly wrong with what I am doing, I want to correct it. Unfortunately, I'm not really sure how to even get feedback on what I am doing.
Maybe I am paranoid, but I think Google Adsense can change my life for the better, and I want to give it 100%
Any advice or suggestions of threads I should read would be greatly appreciated.
if Adsense was not available?
If I recall right the Adsense TOS says something like... ads are not intended for pages created just to have a place to put an ad, regardless of the quality of the content of the page. [see the Adsense TOS for exact wording]
They may or may not enforce that, but it's worth considering.

An interesting dilemna...but let me make this point and tell me what you think:
I am motivated to grow my site, increase my coverage on the web, and strive to place great content on every page that I create regardless of Google adsense. Now that I have Google Adsense, it is even easier for more me to do all of these things. Think about about a magazine publisher. If they get more advertising, they can print more magazines, and it's good for the advertiser as well.
I DEFINITELY plan to print more magazines, and those magazines will contain ads.
I would love to know some specific things I should NOT do, and you can bet I won't do it, especially knowing that there are not clear guidelines in the first place, and of the guidelines that are available, I am doing my best to comply.
If there is ever a site that seems to go against standards, and if there is ANY way that I can be notified of a breach of standard, you can bet I will do everything possible to correct the problem (ex. remove all ads from the site)
As a publisher, I want to make sure that the person that is paying me is happy with the quality. If there is a problem with the quality, I would rather give a full refund (even more than the amount of the alleged fraud) than lose the account.
Maybe I seem paranoid, but I am trying my best to get all the serious questions answered now, because I want to be a great asset to Google, the advertisers, and the people that I serve.
Besides, why not have two or more active revenue streams for your site?
This may seem patronizing, but I LOVE Google. I love the way they do business, and I want to be a part, so my first choice is definitely Google.
(but yes I have alternate revenue streams in mind, though Google is clearly my favorite)
Anyway, I believe there's an immense amount to be learned by selling advertising directly to sponsors, and also by using affiliate programs. Both models are essentially performance-based, and to achieve success you have no choice but to learn how to deliver value to the advertiser.
The other side of the coin is banner networks and AdSense, models that allow sites to simply slap up ads without regard for the advertiser (or even awareness of who the advertiser is). All the optimizing is done for one's own benefit, to maximize the impressions, earnings and clicks. Because of this disconnect, I believe there will always be downward price pressure on these kinds of models.
