is it forbidden in AdSense program (or in PageRank technology in general) to make links to many sites of your own, despite total lack of common topics?

I understand that linking to your sites could be termed as cross linking and Google may therefore penalize your sites, unless of course its an OK with google. I don't see any problem that you should have with adsense, unless of course google doesn't want any penalized sites in its program, which I haven't yet heard of.

Well, its not forbidden in Adsense, and its not forbidden in Google either! But generally if you have a lot of cross linking between sites owned by you - over and above say what would be natural and useful for your readers (if they are totally unrelated as you say, i would guess these sites wouldnt link to each other if each was an independent site with indepedent webmasters making the decision), then yes, the google ranking algo will give you a hard time, and you may find in time some of your sites will lose significant visibility..

How much crosslinking is too much is a subjective call. Cross linking from all pages, index pages or via common text/menus across a significant numbers of pages will generally ring the warning bell in Google's PR protector!

Nothing to do with Adense, unless google decides to stop offering adsense to domains/owners with "black marks" or over-enthusiastic SEO.
