Not many sites I visit run AdSense, and I'm rarely in the SE's looking for anything. Word of mouth has gotten me to more useful websites than SE's ever have in the 10 plus years I've been online.
I know when I'm on my own site and when I'm not, just like when I'm in my own home and when I'm visiting a neighbor.
When I've visited a site that has information that I've really found useful, I have clicked on their AdSense as a "Thank You" gesture.
Sentiments like this are why I dislike AdSense and encourage advertisers to not run ads on content sites. I collect quotes like this one as evidence when I argue against AdSense.

I like to think only a small minority of people act like that.
Personally I agree with the original post in this thread. I'm so concerned about clicking my own ads that I've trained myself never to click on *any* AdSense ad on *any* site. If the ad interests me I enter the URL manually.
On the other hand, I agree with the previous poster that most people who run Adsense tend to NOT click at ANY ads at all (I can assure you about this from my own experience and I only ran Adsense for a month and I never got worried about whether my CTR is too low or too high etc etc like many people here did).
But if you (nyet, beren) think like this, as I said in the past, what will you do when Google becomes a public company? Would you assume that every shareholder would click on your ads to increase G's revenues and value of his shares? You know, the "expensive SERP clicks"-type not the "discounted content-site clicks"
Surely the rationale of clickers is the same and the # of shareholders would be millions, rather than a few 10.000s of the Adsense publishers population.

I am not too worried about it, but if I were to read a post of such a 'clicker' in a public forum, I'd probably have the same response......

Let me further clarify that statement as I do not feel that I'm picking anybody's pocket.
I don't click if none of the ads running interest me. It does have to be something that I'm very, very interested in. The site that led me to that ad certainly should get the click for helping me find it.
I know I should have more faith in Google's routines to detect fraudulent clicks and that me clicking on ads that interest me on other sites probably won't have any adverse effect but try telling my brain that :)
Must not click on Google's AdSense ads!
Must not click on Google's AdSense ads!
Must not click on Google's AdSense ads!
But let's not make advertiser artificially happy by entering his URL manually, I would rather click an add if it interests me.That's the purpose of the adsense system, if I am clear I am never going to be interested in the product displayed then I should not be clicking on the ad Period.
It's the advertiser's site that needs to convert for him to run business,it's not my business to increase his convertions,by reducing his payout(by not clicking on Ads).If it's not viable for him to run adsense it's he who needs to take a call.
Lastly, Adsense is Here Stay! , let's not live in Fear of adsense being turned off completely.
But let's not make advertiser artificially happy by entering his URL manually
or unhappy because you are clicking ads as a 'thank you' (i.e. let the publisher get a little monetary reward).
remember who is paying for all this.
Every click which does not convert hurts the adsense program a little bit.
'Smart' pricing is here to protect advertisers from 'dumb' clicks!

I am all for Smart Pricing.
But I am against typing url Manually,if I am interested in it I think it's in the best interest of adsense to click on ad , it doesn't mean it is a Thank you Click. It means I am interested in it period, if I am not interested in it I wouldn't click.

If people are not interested in buying your product if they come from adsense traffic, then you are not appearing in right locations for which u need to fine tune ur ads not say adsense is not working.
Sine,we all know ads appearing in relevant sites convert well. This is a proven fact, whether you ad is appearing in relevant site is the question you need to see as advertiser.

I was taking a 'jab' at post #7 (I should have re-quoted it, sorry)
Every click which does not convert hurts all the PPC Systems,it's not only applicable to Adsense.
I agree.

oh.
always click those ads - make sure they are working. Don't every let anyone dictate to you how to use your own site.As long as you understand that Google would also feel within its right to kick you out of the program, and that it might actually do that.
Then by all means, click away, click away, just don't complain when they kick you out.

Brett, you've said this before. Are you trying to be funny, or do you genuinely believe that it's okay for publishers to defraud advertisers?
According to your logic, it would be legitimate for the owner of a convenience store to steal money from the bank ATM or lottery machine on the premises because it's his or her store.
There are some pretty clueless people on these boards, and suggesting that they cheat advertisers is less than helpful. Are you trying to sabotage AdSense, clueless newbies, or both? (I don't think Google will regard "Brett told me to do it!" as a legitimate defense when deciding whether to boot an AdSense publisher who's clicked on his own ads.)

With respect Brett, it's very easy for you to say that, but not everyone is in the position of being able to dictate terms to the larger corporates.
If absolutely every AdSense publisher took the same attitude, then it would work just fine. Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case.
For the smaller AdSense site owner, clicking your own ads, unless you know exactly what you're doing, will end in tears (and yet another 40 page thread on here titled "I've been kicked off and did nothing wrong").
