I was reading over the TOS for AdSense, and they say that while they don't allow competing products, "We do allow affiliate or limited-text links." Guess that means these are allow then?

Anyone else doing this - or can you recommend another alternative?

Yes, many of us (including me) are using Commission Junction and other affiliate links. And a lot of nervous publishers have checked with Google before doing so, just to get an official blessing. :-)

I'm using both CJ and AdSense on my sites. There is no problem except one time I got a letter from Google which reminded me of the Adsense TOS. The reason is that one of CJ banners which resembles as an Adsense leaderboard. I had to remove the banner.

Thus, if you use any text ads or banners which look like one of the Adsense formats, you may receive a warning letter from AdSense.

I was also told to remove textual ads that were not "permanent links to affiliates" served by a competing company. Though the only CJ ads on our sites are banners and graphical ads which I clarified with google to make SURE those were okay.

Google doesn't want ANY text ads that do any sort of targeting.

europeforvisitors and FromRocky,
How are you doing with CJ? I once dabbled with it but didn't have very good results. I concluded that it was possibly degrading my AdSense results and I took it off.

I really didn't give CJ much of a try though, so I might have been wrong. Do you think I should give it a second shot?

Thanks for the great comments, all.

I'm interested in the CJ text links - they appear to outperform the banners quite handily. But they are NOT contextual, and they won't look like Google AdSense, so I don't imagine we'll run into any problems.

I also experimented w/ CJ banners once, and it was pretty grim. But the text ads, placed correctly, might fair better... guess we'll see.
