If you want go ahead and post your argument for the number

You know I was thinking earlier today about how much more exposure I get in adsense to my advertising campaign than I do in the regular SERPS. True the CTR is not so hot, but my ads {I am talking here as an advertiser} get thousands more impressions. Some of it has to do with the fact that I refuse to compete in terms of money for a first page result if the CPC is something that does not make sense to me. But the number of impressions for some campaigns is so much higher than SERPS, that it got me thinking.

How many impressions do you think Adsense serves?

I am going to be the first toguess and say about 50 million a day. {based purely on guessing about 50,000 sites with 1,000 average impressions a day}

I know that next thing you know someone will comment about how small a number 1,000 impressions a day is, and use the opportunity to drop that his site has 300,000 impressions a day and that Adsense is undercounting his pageviews by 50%. However, I think that 1,000 average is a bit low, but it might be on track.

Interesting question.

I seem to recall Google saying they have 150,000 advertizers. Course no one nows how many adsense publishers there are, at least I've never seen such a number. Nor do we know what percentage of the advertizers opt for conent sites either.

Hmmm.... lots of mystery in this adsense deal.

Still, I'd guess the number to be closer to 100,000,000 impressions daily.

The big sites (premium) would reall drag the average impressions per site higher in a hurry.

Be interesting to know how many sites show adsense.

Hmm... Seems a tad low, after all the say they serve over 200 million searches a day.

Plus about 200,000 adwords sites?
Give it another couple of weeks and the information will be out there on the web, fear not!

Burst! Media served around 2 billion a month, that was a couple of years ago. I'd say Adsense daily impressions would be higher, as high as quarter billion a day :)

that's 25 and seven 0's

Presumably impressions on the Economist site are "educated", while those on children's sites aren't?

Hehehe, I meant to say educated guess.... ran out of space.

You guys think that the volume is really that high?

250 million even with a horrible CTR and deflated CPC is still a nice chunk of change.

/looks forward to the ipo filings. {although I doubt contextual will be broken out from advertising revenue}

As an exercise for the reader
1- look up on alexa what ranking the googlesyndication servers have
2- try and find real traffic figures for sites with similar ranking
3- multiply traffic by average ads per visit (say 3?)
4- the answer will magically appear
5- Thanks for playing
