Issues with AdSense Ads

Thing's which I wish Google would change

AdSense is very good. However, I wish the ads were more customisable.

Instead of providing set widths and heights for ad banners, let webmasters customise the dimensions so they can fit them into their site design better (with limits obviously). The vertical banners, which aren't very wide, mean that the end of a long url is sometimes cut off and the text is all bunched up to the left.

Also give webmasters the option of how many ads they want to be displayed. For example, I want to use the 'Wide Skyscraper' on my pages, but I only want 3 ads, not 5. Maybe let webmasters set how many ads they want displayed, with an upper limit of 5.

I'd also like to set the font and text size for each of the components (title, url, text) seperately like you can currently do with colours, so that they fit in with my site design better.

I'd also like to be able to disable the underline on the Title, as nothing on my site is underlined including links, so it looks odd (underlines look ugly anyway in my opinion).

The space between each ad is also huge, especially if you have a white border - this should be customisable also.

Finally when are they going to get rid of the 'Ads by Google' stuff.

Have Google said anything about these possible future changes? Maybe I'm just too picky :( But it would be a lot better.

Much of this has been discussed in other threads; you might want to go back and look for those discussions. Also, Google offers quite a few more options now than it did when the network launched last summer: for example, more colors and more ad formats, along with more detailed reporting. It's reasonable to assume that more changes (at least some of which may be good for publishers) will occur in the future.

I doubt if the "Ads by Google" link will go away soon, though. Nor do I think it should: It's good for Google, but it also helps publishers by encouraging potential advertisers to click through and buy ads.

None of mine are underlined, but perhaps that's because I have a site-wide CSS stylesheet.

Also, the 'Ads by Google' is a way for you to give them feedback regarding the ads on your site. I've been using it lately.

"Ads by Google" isn't going anywhere, ever.

U.S. advertising law requires that ads be truthful and not misleading, and that ads be fair.

Ads must be clearly identifiable as ads. Disclaimers and disclosures must be listed in conspicuous type and in a prominent location.

Until the law changes, which I doubt it will in this regard, the phrase and link will remain.
