What's up with the rainbow colored Adsense ads?

I just saw these new multi-colored AdSense ads and thought they were hideous. Anyone else see these yet? Is this supposed to attract viewers to the ads?

I've seen two versions: multi-colored frames and rainbow patterns repeated along the bottom edge.

Or is this one of the new color options that I'm not aware of?
