AdSense PSA's related to Google PageRank?

Over the last couple of days I've noticed a doubling of the amount of alternative ads being served on my sites.

On or about the same time the problem started, Google had a Page Rank update and a couple of my sites dropped a notch.

I was wondering if the two were related somehow? Could it be that Google sends more ads to the higher PR sites, leaving the more common folks with a bunch of PSA's?

Perhaps something worth considering.

Nah. It's to Google's benefit to match ads to content, regardless of PageRank.

PageRank is just one factor in the overall ranking formula for the purpose of ranking pages in the regular serps. What next? Are you going to propose that your backlinks (another ranking criteria) play a role in your adsense ads, too?

I'm getting more empty spaces in the sets of 4 and 5 ads lately on some pretty decently ranked pages. I'm noticing the gaps are more common in the late evening and at night so I think it's just that a lot of advertisers have blocked out that time. It also means I'm more likely to get PSAs at night.

Has anyone else noticed this difference between nighttime and daytime ads?
