What would you buy with yesterday's earnings?

If you were handed the amount in cash from yesterday's adsense earnings, what would you buy that you really want that leaves little change?

I would buy... A car... A toy car that is =)

I would take a trip to my local dollar store, and buy about two items.

Everyone is welcome to discuss their stats if they wish, I only moderate for WebmasterWorld TOS violations, not AdSense ones.

I have been off at PubCon and then SES, so I am back in the thick of things now ;) Internet access was flaky at best, and non-existent after 500 webmasters all tried connecting to the Clarion's WiFi designed for about 10 webmasters.

I will also add that "What are your AdSense stats" was definitely the most-asked question I received during the entire conference, lol.

anxvariety, you make the mistake of assuming I'm playing this silly game. I'm not. Any reference to
amounts of $10-$20 being meagre are in relation to the wider picture and has no relation to what I
am or am not earning. Hello, have you read my previous posts?

silversurfer, you miss the point. It's not about what someone can and can't do with the information. It's
about a little agreement you made.

wonderboy, you may have started it in jest and some posters have posted humourous replies but some
are taking it seriously and - as with the numerous other how-much-are-you-making threads - people are
disclosing actual figures. >> I would take a trip to my local dollar store, and buy about two items

this thread is a not so subtle attempt to skirt the AdSense rules

I couldn't have put it better

It wouldn't surprise me if Jenstar kills it

When she's back she may kill it, or she may not. It's possible she may be persuaded by higher
powers to keep it open.

>What would you buy with yesterday's earnings?

A WebmasterWorld subscription for the fellows in need who ask such questions.

That's my favourite answer :-)

A sense of humour?

As my first form teacher was fond of saying "sarcasm is cheapest form of humour"

And with the change I will buy some fries!

I would actually consider buying a new cord that goes from brain to mouth that allows for my sense of humour to be displayed more vividly and efficiently.

Anyone know how much those are?

Well, I am new here but I will offer an observation anyway - from Pubcon and reading www.

Why does everyone (Google especially) seem to consider the Google TOS considered "law"?

A TOS is just that. Break it if you like, and risk Google choosing not to do business with you. A calculated risk, but certainly not illegal or even arguably unethical. Last I looked CA is the only state trying to put a value on breaking a TOS... am I more ignorant than I know?

Without innovators we wouldn't make any progress. Did Google treat every other companies TOS-equivalent as law when it built Google? I doubt it. Remember Google spidering without regards to Robots.txt? Remember Google indexing SSL areas? Remember Google caching no-cache areas? Ever hear of the hardball take-no-prisoners IP banning tactics employed by Google today, with whole subnets blocked because of the errors of a single user?

A TOS is meant to contain the masses.... the innovators will find away around it as necesary for innovation.

I am surprised there isn't a subscription forum out there where posters openly debate Adsense/Adwords stats and earnings - in full violation of the Google TOS perhaps, but certainly not illegal. Sounds like a good place to put Overture ads for SEO/webmaster stuff ....

"Evil," says Google CEO Eric Schmidt, "is what Sergey says is evil."

Now, get that through your head, he makes the laws, we just abide by them.:)

Remember, boys and girls, don't be evil!

It certainly is unethical. Each of us made a promised and commitment to abide by the TOS as a condition of participation in the AdSense program. To intentionally break the TOS with malice of forethought is a reflection on ones ethics.

Remember Google spidering without regards to Robots.txt? Remember Google indexing SSL areas? Remember Google caching no-cache areas?

I don't see how this is relevant. I entered into an agreement with Google. None of the above violates the agreement I entered into with them. Even if any actions of theirs violates agreements they've entered into elsewhere that does not provide me with carte blanche to break my agreement with them.

Nobody said it's law, and arguing that it's not law distracts from the main argument i.e. that it is unethical and that's it's not a matter of breaking the TOS at your risk but a matter of not entering into or at least terminating an agreement if you are unable to keep your end of the deal. Webmasters who believe that it's ethical to break the TOS provided they don't get caught will be the same webmasters who scream blue murder if Google says they're only going to pay out 50% of what the stats showed last month.

Without innovators we wouldn't make any progress

What does innovation have to do with breaking TOS? Are you trying to argue that unethical people are innovators? Or that innovators are unethical? Or both?

I'd buy the wife something (always helps to get some brownie points)

Macro me ol' China, this is you from this thread in mssge #8...

What is amazing is the number of different ways people try to break the spirit of the agreement they signed up to.

>> what would you buy that you really want that leaves little change

i.e. give me an idea of what your earnings are. <sigh>

and this is you from this thread [webmasterworld.com]

My earnings used to be stable too. It's not a five figure sum per month but definitely a healthy four figure dollar amount and for the last few days it's dropped by about 50%

There's really not a lot of difference there from my way of thinking.

Let people have their fun, but by all means be kind enough to point them to the TOS if they appear ignorant of them. And having said that, I wish I had similar figures as you (but before the 50% drop :)

2oddsox, well spotted. That post was made shortly after I joined webmasterworld and a few weeks after I joined Adsense (about 7-8 months ago) and based on my interpretation of the TOS at that time. Since then it has been pointed out to me that even a veiled discussion of stats is a violation of the TOS. Since then there have been several revisions of the TOS and everybody's understanding of the current TOS is that it is not allowed.

'Twasn't meant to be an argument :) - I get enough of those from my wife ;)

I think Macro is right to point out the TOS, like most of us newcomers have been pointed to in the past - but a little fun doesn't hurt also :)

chicagohh, it hasn't taken any turn ;-)

I'll use some of my Adsense earnings to buy your wife a present
is not any kind of disclosure.

Maybe what the turn should be is what you can comment on without giving any idea of how much you are making.... like one earlier example of buying widgets :-)

2oddsox has linked to some information about what I was getting in October last year. I won't comment on whether my income recovered to original levels, went higher, or went lower. But since that suggests a largish figure, I'll venture this:

With my yesterday's earnings I'm going to buy Bill Gates. And with the change I'll persuade Google to not go for an IPO, I'll make them a private bid offer they can't refuse ;-)

Mate, if you start buying presents for my wife, you can forget about Bill Gates - you won't have two pennies left to rub together ;)

But please, don't let that put you off... ;)
