Is AdSense replacing PopUps / PopUnders?

Maybe this is an additional benefit...

In one of the recent threads here I read that a publisher replaced popups/popunders with Google AdSense because it was more valuable to him. I did the same, and for me AdSense is worth 5 times more than those annoying popunders.

Has anyone else replaced their old popup/popunder ads with AdSense? Is this a side benefit of programs like AdSense--making the web experience less annoying because fewer sites are opting to use popups in favor of programs like AdSense?

If you want adsense you HAVE to replace your popup/unders. Your not allowed to have them.

Personally i find sites that throw that stuff in your fice i don't visit at all nor will i ever support. Popunders and intrusive ads are the lowest of the lowest in my opinion

It was my understanding that popups/popunders were allowed as long as they are not "excessive". Here's a thread on the topic:

I agree, though, that they are very annoying (and I found them very ineffectual as well--very low CTR in comparison with AdSense).

Yes, you can have popups/unders as long as they aren't excessive.

The official word from Google, in the AdSense policies, is Pop-ups, pop-unders or exit windows that interfere with site navigation, obscure AdWords ads, change user preferences, or are for downloads. Other types of pop-ups, pop-unders, or exit windows may be allowed, provided that they do not exceed a combined total of 5 per user session
