In what I believe is a first for Google, they have begun an advertising campaign on high tech news site Slashdot.

<snip>

I know everything Google does these days is at least theorised to be IPO related, but this new direction for them certainly has traits that could make it so.

Thoughts anyone?

Aye, I've also seen the ads on internet.com sites. Same type of ads, only 600*80 format.

I wonder why they aren't using text ads? :-)

I wonder whether Adsense could be a viable option for Slashdot?

Maybe it's a subtle hint to them.

That is the same ad and picture that appeared in the first issue of Revenue magazine, discussed in a different thread.

WSJ.com, which I subscribe to, has had Revenue Science "read" their users viewing habits and are then targeting ads to those readers--and I've seeing a LOT of ads for Google's AdSense there.

And, Google has ads on Editor and Publisher all of the time as well.

Interesting. I was under the impression (NPI :p) that Google barely advertises at all. Let alone Adsense which is not it's primary product.

Has there been any advertising for other Google services? Adwords?

Yes, I have seen AdWords print advertising for a long time, especially in the Direct Marketing Association newsletter.

AdSense doesn't have a problem running competitive contextual advertisers in their Adwords/AdSense. I saw an AdSense ad for Quigo on a page about AdSense that was also running AdSense ads.

Wouldn't serving Adsense ads for Quigo and Adsense ads for something else on the same page though be double-serving which is not permitted?
