Recently I have noticed people swtiching from
Wide Skyscraper (160x600) in their sidebars, to just Small Rectangle (180x150).

Anyone else tried this? Opinions?

I think I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

I use the wide skycraper on the left column of my site. It is the same ad on all 700 plus pages.

This has been my experience: I have tried the 728x90 ads at the top of my site, I've tried the AdLinks as well at the top. Awful results with either of those. The 728x90 ads look SO much better on my site, but CTR is horrible and eCPM as well.

I then tried out the medium rectangles on the left rather than the wide skyscraper, all of them had terrible CTR and eCPM as well. The only thing I can find that works well on my main and oldest site is the wide skyscraper.

Not sure why, I've noted that some of the most successful (in terms of AdSense earnings) webmasters at WW seem to use the 728x90 near the top of their sites. When I do it, I get very little, even though it is much more attractive.

My other sites do fine with the AdLinks up near the top navigation, but not with my big site.

I guess it just goes to show that what works for one site does not necessarily work for another site.
