I'm 17 and according to the program policies I must be 18 to partcipate. What can I do? Can I do it anyway - How can they determine my age etc

Any advice?

Others your age have had a parent set up an Adsense account for them to use.

Sure, you can try to do it anyway. But if you get caught, you could be banned for life. Why take the risk when all you have to do is wait?

If I was to put the name under my parent. At a later date would I be able to change the name to my name in the Google account?

Thanks

It might be possible, but I think the system makes that sort of thing very difficult.

But it really wouldn't matter.

When you turn 18, just set up your own account and switch the ad code on your site(s) and you'd be set.

I don't think so. You will need to close your account and will have to open a new one.
Even if you move country you cannot keep the same account and have to close it and reopen a new one.

But that's not a problem and if you are concerned about it you could always ask Google support what they recommend you do.

Really? Or is that only for US citizens?

I changed bank payment details to another country without any problems.

Was I lucky?

Go to adsense/account-settings>Payee Information [edit]

You can change everything there.

I changed the "Pay to Name" on my account yesterday. It was not because of my age though.
My company used to own the account, but I wanted to have the account in my name instead, so I emailed the adsense team in my country (norway).

I got a nice reply from a very nice woman, asking me to answer some questions just to prove it was really my account in the first place.

But I don't believe it's something they do every time someone asks them. I think I was lucky. Just think so, from the way she answered my enquiry.

But why not just wait untill you're 18? I bet you're only a few months away. Start adding fresh great content every day from now, and when you turn 18, sign up with adsense, and make killer-earnings your first month from all the traffic you have gained! ;)

Fiky as I Will Make It says, this is good advice, follow it

Its an excellent target, if you started now you would probably be making very little (I dont know what current traffic your site gets) and maybe, just maybe you start clicking your own ads and get banned before even reaching 18.

If you dont have plenty of traffic NOW, adding good, unique content will give you a MAJOR boost later when you sign up.

Maybe things have changed. I considered changing my bank account's country because I still cannot get EFT in my country (Greece) but AdSense support told me that I would have to close my account and reapply. A lot of hassle to get EFT.
Oh well, maybe one day Google will realize that we are part of Europe and the Euro zone and give us EFT as well.

Country or territory: is not an editable field in my account. All the rest is (apart from my name).

Hey, maybe you need to be a Senior Member of WebmasterWorld in order to get the additional AdSense edit options ;-)

Thanks for the advice - Abit hard since I just turned 17 and got another 12 months to wait but I do agree that 12 months of adding fresh content is a golden idea. However 6 months of adding good content and then using my mums name for the Adsense account until I turn 18 is even better.

Does Google pay direct to the bank account via electronic I'm in Australia... Perhaps I can use my mothers name and whack in my account details instead of hers in 6months time.

Thanks again.

Strange, I'm in the UK and never wanted EFT and have recently given "alternative" banking arrangements with no problem.

Plus G pays in Euros, what can be the problem?

Hahaha...doubtful, I'm pretty sure they know who I am the info I divulge here!

Anyway, all the accounts (legit clients etc) I run have the same options, I'll have a look in the morning to make sure I am correct since I would hate to post incorrect info.

I know! But try telling them! All my banking is done online except for once a month where I have to trudge over to the bank and queue for ages to deposit my Google cheque.

Fiky,

Do you have a buddy that is 18?

Have him apply and cut him in for 20% on a year deal just to cash the check/eft, then turn 18 apply yourself and put your code in. That's if you don't want to deal with your mum, I would go that route if you are not comfortable with the parent thing and have somebody you can trust.

Another great pitch for parents is that you will put 50% of the proceeds towards college (and actually do it). I am 49 if you approached me with that I would seriously look into signing you up.

Thanks Khe I will most probably put it in my mums name. Thanks :)

At the moment, All my tech savvy mates have no idea about my site or anything apart from planning to put adsense. I like it that way - lets me sleep at night knowing some idiot isnt 100x clicking an add...
