I carefully used section targeting with weight=ignore around the chunks of the page that contain any mention of product A, and I used the positive form of section targeting to emphasize references to product B.
But my original version of the page was rather heavier in density for keywords surrounding product A, so AdSense is now saturating the page with ads for product A.
I've rebalanced the density of keywords so that product B is the most-mentioned, but AdSense is still awash with nothing but ads for product A. (In fact, the percentage of ads for product A has gone from about fifty percent to ninety percent.)
I'm a bit miffed that AdSense is ignoring the section targeting, and I'm not sure what to do to banish all ads for product A. (I can't remove all mention of product A from the page, because that would hurt the article.)
Do I need to take any further action, or will waiting for the keyword density changes to be acknowledged be the best course of action?
In my experience, after your targeting gets off base because of undesired keywords in a page, it can take days, even weeks, for the bot to come back and targeting to get back to where you'd like to see it.
I've learned now to head these things off at the pass before the adsense bot even gets a chance to see keywords that get my pages off target.
