AdSense Video Ads

Are We Credited When they're Played or After A Click Through?

I was just looking at the Video Ads information on my Google account and it says that the video will first appear as a static image, then the site visitor can click on play to play the video. Once the video is playing they can click on the url at the end of the video or click on the video itself and will be taken to the advertisers website.

Do we get credited for the click when they press play or only when they click and are taken to the advertisers site? I assume once they are taken to the advertisers site, but I've learned never to assume anything.

Also, anyone who has used these, how do you find they convert? Better than the normal text ads? Worse than the text ads?

Is there a way to tell if a video was clicked on? As in, if you put the ads up and perhaps there is not enough video ads, they would replace video ads with the regular text ads? Is there any way to tell?

I don't think you get credited if someone merely watches the video.

The information on the site is a little lacking, IMO. You SHOULD get paid if they click to watch--this isn't a video that starts when they hit the page. And you should get paid if they then click through.

Click-to-play video ads can be paid EITHER on a CPM basis or a CPC basis, so the short answer is, "It depends..."

If the video ad appearing on your site is a CPM ad, you'll be paid for impressions (just like any other CPM ad). In this case, a click-through to the advertiser site won't generate any earnings.

If the video ad appearing on your site happens to be a CPC ad, you will be paid when a user 1) clicks on the display URL or 2) clicks on the ad itself.

Hope that clarifies!

What? I thought it was okay for webmasters to click "Play" on video ads appearing on their site?

Um, according to Google's AdWords FAQ, advertisers don't pay for clicks on the "Play" button (thus presumably publishers don't get any money for that either).

Sorry jomaxx! Thanks for pointing that out -- you're totally right. I edited my post, which should be accurate now. :-P

No problem. As if I'd let my mouse stray anywhere near an AdSense block anyway. :-)

You get paid when they click to watch

Actually, you DO NOT get paid when users click on the 'Play' button.

TO CLARIFY: You are paid either for impressions (on a CPM basis) or when they click-through to the advertiser's site (on a CPC basis).

For details, see: [google.com...]

I have a large video section, it would be good if one could only get videos as an options, as I usually avoid large rectangles to get inbound links and make the site more attractive for viewers.

Only videos would fit in, but if I have no control it might show mega ad text and very few of my text as it is as said a video section. :\

And as I hate pages like that myself, I am not gonna force them onto my users.

So in short it would be great if there would be an only video ad option.
