Is anyone having a really good time? A changed life?
Is it because you get to do what you most enjoy doing, with contextual ad revenue making it possible?
Who here is really enjoying themselves, in a way that you must attribute to your earnings?
What do you enjoy most?
Why?
The sense that there may be a high percentage of newcomers who "do it for the money" versus "it's my joy . . and the money is nice too" is a bit disappointing.
Like a lot of people here, I had a website that was my 'baby' long before Adsense came along. So the desire to build and grow it was always there. I think Adsense simply created a way to monetize the site and provide extra income.
I remember someone asking the question in a previous thread (months ago): "If Adsense went away tomorrow, would you still put the time and effort into your website?"
If you cannot answer, "yes" to that question, you may be in it just for the money.
"If Adsense went away tomorrow, would you still put the time and effort into your website?"
Yup. The money is good, and useful. But I'd go on without it. Actually the money is somewhat of a distraction.
On another note.... as to why we don't see more of these threads/posts.
This place is aimed at the professional webmaster.
I wonder how many other publishers are here who, like me, started with a hobby site and don't really consider themselves to be "professional webmasters"?
To me there is enough of a difference, maybe even conflict, of perspective between the hobbyist and pro viewpoints here that it affects my participation here.
I wonder if other hobbyist publishers here might also limit their participation and or comments because of the "pro" nature of the forums.
I also agree that the perspective of a hobbyist is quite different from that of a "professional". My goal is to provide information to the user. The goal of a professional is to get the user to click on an ad or to buy something.
At least for me, this difference does limit my participation here for several reasons. First, I don't spend all day here ;-) Second, most of the discussions seem to be about the achieving the goals of a professional, rather than the goal of a hobbyist. Its not that there is anything wrong about the former, but it just doesn't interest me.
how many people you know still check their site statistics first before checking the earnings and clicks?
I no longer check my Adsense statistics more than once or twice a month to see what the confirmed payment is. It's been easier to focus on good sites since, and the profitability has been on the up.
