Blocking Ads That Match Certain Keywords

Is it possible?

I want to *NOT* show ads for my direct competitors. Yes, Google allows me to limit ads based on particular vendors, but this list changes every day! Is it possible for me to just say I don't want any ads that contain the phrases "chocolate donuts" for example, to show on my site?

If not - does Yahoo Ads do that? Or, is there anoter reasonable solution I'm not considering?

Thanks.

Don't know about Yahoo, but AdSense doesn't have a way to prevent competitors' ads other than the URL filter.

If it's a particular keyword or keyword phrase that brings in the ads you want to block, one solution might be not to put AdSense code on the pages with that keyword.

I would like to block all of those ringtone MFA sites simply by using the keyword "ringtones" in my filter list.

I've been chasing the ringtone vendors off of my sites ... there's only a couple dozen that started creeping in. Based on some of the other MFA threads here as well, I decreased my ad units from 3 to 2 on the page. Haven't seen a ringtone ad for the last couple of days -- but they typically come out more on the weekend, so will know more then.

No! Other than Competition filter, Google has no provision of blocking ads from being published.

One possible solution can be, you may try to REMOVE the keyword RINGTONE from your webpage. Change the keyword or cloak the keyword.

Or you may try Section Targeting of Google Adsense

I recal someone mentioned previously the ability to embed a set of keywords for the ads to key off of instead of allowing Google to figure it out by itself. It sounds like a possible solution for those pages in which proper targeting may not be obvious to Google.

Does anyone know how to do this or where I can find out more?

Unfortunately, that doesn't work too well. One of my sites is music related and I guarantee the word "ringtone" doesn't appear anywhere on it, yet ringtone ads show up pretty often. Luckily, ringtone advertisers tend to bid low for general music keywords, so by limiting the number of ad blocks a page, I usually don't see their ads until late at night or on weekends.

I get boatloads of ringtone ads on a fireworks site, and there's no ring, nor tone, nor ringtone string anywhere - but they keep coming.

netmeg-

I get them as well on a section of my site devoted to fine art. You know, the Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Pablo Picasso ringtones... they've got'em!

like section targeting?

Yep! Exactly! This is one of the latest ways to dictate google mediabot the part of content that should effect the ads.

This sometimes increases your Ads relevancy, but Google doesnt guarantees it. Seems like this feature is still in Beta phase.

You run a Music site and keywords related to "MUSIC" must be favorite of Ringtone bidders. There is probably nothing you can do about this particular problem.
