This reminds me of when I worked in corporate america.
-You work harder
-You work longer
-Get a promotion (without a raise)
-Get more responsibilities
and who benefits? Your Boss (owner of the company)
It is seriously getting discouraging. Anybody else seeing this? All I keep hearing is "Smart pricing".... I have to agree that it is really SMART, but not for us publishers!
Think of the advertiser. They would much rather have 5 people at 2 cents a click than 1 person at 10 cents a click. They need to convert whatever it is they are selling and thus need more traffic. If you send them tons of non-converting traffic then shouldn't there cost per click be less? Remember that google is the middleman. They always want to please the advertiser. If the advertiser goes away there is 0 cash for you and google. If you go away, well unless you are huge player, google will probably not bat an eyelash.
The same G ads I used to have on my index were now paying more on my second tier pages, (5 left with Madsense, 40 cents).
I thought I was smart priced but that would be account wide. The only thing I could conclude is a group of advertisers, in my niche, tatgeted my index page with very low CPM ads and reaped the rewards of the volume or the landing page score was so good that they could drop their ads to a obsurd price. Now I get fair prices from them on the back pages where they have to compete with ads on other topics.
This is why I advocate for price disclousure in the preview tool.
(Guys if you ever see me edit it is for spelling mystakes)

How is google able to track what leads to a sale? I am assuming the webmaster would have to use some sort of tracking code that not all webmasters would bother doing. Also, not all web sites sell products. What about a web site that sells advertising blocks (not adsense) on its pages, but offers a free service?
I see your point, but who really knows if G is playing fair or just deciding what they think is fair, "take it or leave it". It's not like we have many other alternatives that pay as well.
In the meantime, I will have to work 10 times harder to achieve my goals! COFFEE NOW!
