Is This A Stupid Thing To Do?

Holding Back Check Till US$1000

Hi,

I am working full time for Adsense but not making much money. So far, I have yet to reach US$1000. I am reaching there but if I collect my check now, I might lose my motivation if I see the earned amount started from zero again instead of what I have been earning since joining Adsense.

What if I got banned (not that I am doing illegal stuffs that breached Google's TOS) before reaching US$1000? Will I get paid for the amount of money earned before getting banned?

Another stupid thing that I am doing now is not using Adsense at my .org sites. I could've earned more than what I am earning now if I put Adsense at all of my sites. I've been relying on only one web site and the traffic mostly coming from image search engines which is not profitable due to the type of ads shown. They also are consuming lots of bandwidth that I have to delete some pages.

:S

You got it.. Cash your Cheque now...

or you could lose all accumulated monies.. Not worth the risk is it?

I wouldn't consider this stupid if I'm totally playing by the TOS. However I still wouldn't wait for any kind of amount accumulation. As they say, a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush.

If you are doing this only for motivation then a better motivation would be to set a monthly target ($1000? :-D ) and try to achieve that.

I would:-

a) take the money as soon as possible. It's better sitting in your account, not Google's.

b) implement adsense on all of your sites, but put channels in to see where the ads work best.

c) move to a server capable of delivering your site as intended to visitors. Moving to US hosting made sense for me in that most of my visitors are there. The pages seem to load faster, and as the ads load faster I'm sure that has an impact on earnings. I think most would agree that a financial investment in hosting pays dividends.

d) not worry too much about getting booted unless you are doing something contrary to the TOS.

Few years back my first check for the fraction of the first month that I displayed adsense was around $150, so I put a hold on payment till my earnings reached an amount worth a visit to the bank, it is not unheard of to do that.

I didn't withdraw any money from AdSense for my first year. My goal was to let the account run by itself and set up a corporate account with the earnings after the first year. Yes I was concerned about getting banned for unknown reasons but I always followed the TOS to the letter and never gave it a second thought. Besides, I figured if I did get banned for whatever reason, what better defense than to point out to Google "I trusted you with my money for over a year, now why would I do something stupid?" And to answer your next question, the amount wasn't enough to put me on easy street but I will say it was 5 figures.

Cash the check and start charting (I use Excel) your success. This way you can use the money and still see your results as you grow your business.

putting a hold is good idea if you're not in the US. for every check i bank in, i have to pay up to USD20 for bank charges. For every $100 check i bank in, i get only $80. So yes, i wait till it reaches $500 before i release the hold ... that's about a check every two months...

Never made a mistake of not withdrawing your earning from Ad networks (even if its gooooooogle). I have learned this the hard way. Long back, I was using advertwizard.com on my sites and I made the same mistake of leaving my earning with them. One fine morning I found that advertwizard.com have just gone bankrupt :(

No, I am not saying that this type of things can happen with goooogle... but there is no benefit to keep your money with them ....

There could be to AdSensers outside of the USA, the USA Adsensers situation is difficult, however especially to those who do not want EFT and have "alternative" banking arrangements keeping one's earnings in a safe place could, indeed, be very beneficial until one is ready to receive it.

I do not wish to be drawn on this, there's enough info available on that worldwidewebbyinternetthingy:-)

If your only reason to leave it in is for motivation, and you don't need the money for anything immediate, Why don't you open an investment account specifically for the adsense income?

That way you could see the money growing, not only from your income, but as an investment as well.

Letting Google earn interest on YOUR MONEY is just silly.

Take the money while you can,
Because it's lost when you are banned.
Even if you're reinstated,
All your earnings are deflated!

Which is exactly what I did, I started a savings account with the tax refund for state and federal. Now as I get payments from Google (once I get the first $100, 57% there already...) all the money goes into the savings account so that I can earn interest on it until I have to pay taxes on it at the end of the year. Who knows, maybe if the amount gets to be a higher value, invest in some short term bonds for 90-180s to get a better return then the average savings account while still maintaining liquidty to pay the taxes I owe uncle sam. Hopefully I get to pay him alot of taxes.

I think the fact you're asking the question means you know it is!

The sooner googlebank opens and they give us Visa/Mastercard debit cards, an offshore facility and transferable facilities for those who wish to use Adwords...the better:-)

It won't happen for those in the US though, the tax authorities have far too much clout!

However are Google interested in the US market for their advertising growth? I doubt it.

Good idea. I do invest in stocks and I would like to see Google giving stock options to Adsense publishers. :D

Probably I'm asking too much from Google. But isn't this idea would actually benefit Google and Adsense publishers? Google can make use of our money and at the same time increasing the price of its shares in the stockmarket.

For example, lets say I reached my first US$200 more than a year ago and I opted for 1 Google share instead of receiving US$200 cheque. Google share closed at US$379.44 yesterday and I could have made a profit of US$179 and at the same time would be more motivated to work harder for Google.

Probably Messrs Larry Page & Sergey Brin would say "Keep on dreaming!"

whooaaa there ... think of the implications! even with Adsense at it's basic (paying out cash per click I mean), they've already got click fraud, scraper sites and all that cr@p to handle, imagine if you upped it to stock options... there'll be an avalanche of fraudsters trying to get the lion's share of google's stock!

I used to draw my money off monthly then had teh idea to build it up.

So I left it.

Car went wrong, that money would have come in handy.

Take it with both hands
