have some doubts...

I would like to add AdSense ads to some pages of my site that get a lot of traffic. Basically, these pages contain one image and up to 20 words describing the image.

I'm not worried about the ad targeting; I only would like to know if this is OK with AdSense policies.

Because you are not worried about targetting I will say don't do it. Only because you aren't playing the game fair. Play nicely!
Perhaps add an image description that will ensure adverts will appear that convey the theme of the image or page to the user. This is interesting and within T&C.

I see no problem with this. Images are valid content, even more so if they are described properly. But do not expect high CTR - image galleries (especially attractive galleries) tend to have lower CTR than article sites.

I do not like all this web sites with tiny thumbnail pictures and all only text.

My online magazines are much like picture books with some description text about the pictures.

I have thousands of image pages showing my niche construction products and earn money from them all.

Ensure your titlebars, all metatags and on page descriptions together with alt tags all match and you'll have no problems.

Any problems, you know where to find me.

I have some image pages but assumed they would get few clicks and EPC. For those of you who have picture pages how do they compare to content pages?

You should be ok with the TOS (as you describe in your post).

In my image gallery, the CTR was horrid. I eventually removed Adsense because of the effect of the lower CTR on the quality of Adsense ads on other better performing pages.

That's what I kind of suspected Susie. Thanks

The CTR on my photo pages is one third of overall CTR on my sites.
I thought about removing the ads on he photo pages in order to improve overall CTR (which is not too bad by the way) but then I'd lose over $100 a month which seems a shame.
Still can't decide. Any advice?

I decided to put Yahoo ads on my picture pages. That way it won't affect my AdSense smart pricing. Since AdSense is by far my best earner I don't want to hurt it in any way.

I find Yahoo doesn't do as well on my sites but they seem to be targeting these photos well. I have just enough text to be sure of that. So we will see if it brings in a little income.

This is a great idea but unfortunately YPN still only works with US based publishers. Or has that changed in the last few months?
