I'm sure others have figured this out a while ago - but I'm baffled and ... I'm a newbie.

What kinds of ads can I include that are NOT adsense?

Senario: My webpage is about Widgets. Can I offer ad space to makers of widgets on my webpage?

$100/mo for a jpeg or text add about WidgetCo.? - along side AdSense Adverts about Widgets (or whatever google wants to show on my site).

I'm not talking about selling widgets via Amazon and such - just my own selling of adspace on my site.

thanks for your advice.

Text Link Ads

Just bought one for marketing so far. They average around $50 a month, haven't tried to sell any yet.

The important thing is that you should not use ads that are served up based on the content of the page.

For example if you use Amazon you can have ads on items you have chosen or topics you have chosen but not thier ads that are based on your page's content.

You are able to sell ads yourself - no problems. The case you describe of having a graphic is fine. Adsense won't allow contextual serving of ads on the same page as adsense, but a graphic with a link isn't contextual, so therefore conforms to the TOS.

David,

Speaking of selling ads yourself is there some good interactive software/service to build, post and track the ads?

I would like to make ad selling more organic through the site itself.

When in doubt ask Google. I've done this two times. The fist time the banner ad I wanted to place on my site was rejected, I was told it looked too much like AdSense. The second time I asked - about another ad, it was okayed. As far as I could tell both ads were about the same. The only difference was the rejected ad had more text in it.

phpadsnew works well for serving and tracking ads, as you can target by country or region depending on the database you purchase. As regards doing the creatives, I get a design service to do it for me as I'm crap at them! Photoshop will work well if you are good at graphics I guess.
