This may sound dumb but may right clicking your own ad in order to see link properties be consdiered a a fault? I mean that is not counted as a click right?

Clicking for any reason is not allowed. They won't credit your accont but they don't like it either.
To check the destination of ads on your page without the risk of invalid clicks, Google suggests using the AdSense Preview Tool, available here:
Right-clicking is just fine. I think Demaestro misread the question.
As long as you don't generate a clickthrough (e.g. by selecting "open link in a new window"), there is no effect whatsoever.

Right clicking, to bring up a menu to do things like inspect the source code is fine, since it doesn't generate a URL/page-load event.
I use right-click + ViewSourceChart (something that Firefox has as a plugin) to very quickly display the domains for the MFA's that occasionally pop up.

I can't be sure but I think I saw Google saying to do this somewhere.
