why are all ads in English?

Until recently I had pages in Chinese on a multi-language website hosted in the UK. These were in simplified characters (GB2312) as used in mainland China and Singapore.

I was running adsense on the pages and the ads displayed were in Chinese and appropriate to the page, although the actual return was extremely low.

The same pages have now been moved to a new site hosted in China with a .cn name. I waited for Google to index at least part of the site before putting adsense back on, and sure enough Mediapartners came scurrying around.

But now all the ads are in English! They are appropriate to page content, but are clearly aimed at people wishing to visit China rather than the people who live in China. They are very similar to the ads that were on the pages when they were in the UK, but most of those were in Chinese. I have checked with the Google Preview tool but it's the same for all countries including China and Singapore.

Am I missing something here? Why are the ads in English? Are there no Adwords users in China?

Is adsense relivant to wherever the viewer is from? Ie if your viewing it in the UK then you'll get ads in english? I'm not sure

Thanks Rightz,

The site is in one of the supported languages, so I don't see that as the problem.

With the Google preview tool you can see the ads that will be served in different countries. In fact the site is displaying some different ads when the tool is set to different countries, but they are all in English. When the pages were hosted in the UK in a .com site the ads were in Chinese (simplified).

I thought I would try to get some feedback here before contacting Adsense.

The problem seems to be resolved. Ads in Chinese began appearing a couple of days ago, and are now a high proportion of all ads on the site.
