Referrals NOT allowed as alternate ads

to Google's contextual ad units

In this thread [webmasterworld.com] it was brought to my attention by garyr_h and humblebeginnings that using Google referral ads as alternate ads to Google's contextual ad units is a breach of policies and TOS.

While I thought otherwise, on contacting Google, then confirmed by email that it is indeed not allowed.

I am posting this in a separate thread for future reference for other WW members who might think like I did that Google's rule against using their ads as alternate does not apply to using Referral ads as an alternate to Google's ads.

In effect Google would rather send those impressions and clicks / earnings to other networks, something I strongly wish they would reconsider.
