OK, so I've been complaining about poor AdSense performance last 2 months or so, meanwhile, i commented out a major AdSense block on the bottom of my site and didn't even know it! DOH :(

now, all the big-daddy and index problems notwithstanding, it's still one of the money makers, and I've lost at least a few hundred on this. I don't even remember when i got the bright idea to take the block off, but weeks passed for sure.

that's one mistake I'd like to forget!

why don't you tell your adsense mistakes, it might make me feel better :)

A mistake with the logic in a PHP if statement meant that I went a few days without one of my better-performing ad blocks showing to any visitors. After a while I wondered why my impressions were way down!

2 weeks ago, I was at a fair in the press center.

I decided to update my best runing site.

My sefmade CMS system creates a batch file for a command line FTP.

To reduce the chance, that somebody tries to access a file just being uploaded, the batch is like

put index.htm index.htm.new
del index.htm
rename index.htm.new index.htm

But in the press center was some strange sort of filter.

put did not work
del worked
rename failed, because there is no index.new.htm

After the batch file ended, all html files on my best runing site hat been deleted.

For luck, WS_FTP light was not affected by the filter, but it took one hour to mark each html file manualy for upload

recently when i swithced to a widescreen laptop, by mistake i changed the layout of my site, from 800 pixels to 840, and my adsense skyscrapper went out of a normal sceen, i didnt realized since i was using higher resolution in widescreen. it continued for 1 month plus.

Moved my Adsense banner from the bottom of my blog to the bottom of the post in the Blogger template. Forgot that this would case the ad to appear at the end of every blog post on the main page, which of course, breaks the TOS since 3 blocks is the maximum. Fortunately, I caught it before they did, though I did notice that only three banners were ever displayed, after which their software just doesn't serve another one.

BTW, it seems to me that it almost doubled the click through for all of my archived blog posts, having the Ad banner right below the post rather than after a little extra navigation. I never did figure out a good way to have Blogger place the code where I wanted it, I just made a habbit of editing the extra appearances of the javascript out of all but the last post on the main page and uploading it a second time.

If you put ad block beneth your every blog post, google autmatically shows only first three ads I think, so other ones are not shown, so you wouldn't be breaking TOS, at least I think so...

I was editing my index page and unknowingly pressed F5 and then save. I didn't see it until few days later and the SERPs re-racked. There in the middle of all my page one listings is the date/time stamp in the middle of my headline.

OOOOOOOwwwwwww..... I bet all my competitors were laughing! It took about 10 days to change again. I don't think I lost anything but it was DANG embarrassing.

I was travelling for a month, keeping a site updated through the control panel's built in text editor. It was fine and the changes had no issues, but when I got home, I dud some updating and uploaded the files straight from the home machine over the newly editted files on the server.

A padded keyboard would have made the head-bashing more pleasant.
