small images next to ads

allowed?

I've seen this more and more on sites.
Putting small images image about the size of 1 ad in height) next to adblocks so it looks like the image is associated with the text (ad) next to it.
Just wondering if this is ok to do? Because I have to say it does help in making the ads stand out more.

Well that's like bringing attention to ADS, so yes it's not allwed.

They are allowed. There are threads here where people asked Google and were told its okay. I asked my Google rep personally and he said it was allowed so long as the images did not prompt users to click (for example an arrow pointing to the ad is not allowed).

no need to ask adsense support here. graphics around the ads are allowed as long as they don't point to the ads.

I think it's always a good idea to direct TOS related questions directly to the source (Adsense Support).

We could all say it's fine and allowed, and the original poster could put it on his site and get banned.

What are they going to say? "But the folks at webmasterworld said it was ok!"

It doesn't matter if 100 senior members of webmasterworld say it's OK, if one Google employee (or automated process or however they do it) says it's not OK, then you could be in for trouble.

I personally asked them this question a while back and they told me to apply a very light border around my ad to distinguish where the ad ends and my picture began.

I agree, especially since the whole point of asking was that the OP wanted to draw attention to the ads. Who are we to say how close is too close? Or how much is too much?

Thanks for the replies people.
I'll ask adsense support as well to make sure, as some of you suggested.

And it's not so much to draw attention to the ads in a way that I want to "force" people to click on them.
I just think it's a nice way to get rid of the ad blindness.
