Just wondering if it is ok to place an article that relates to kazaa and bit torrent etc in my site, or would I have to remove the adverts from the page, or would it just be seen as wrong even without the adverts on the page?

Well, I'm not an expert on such things but I did read the TOS when I signed up...

If it's a genuine article that doesn't suggest doing anything illegal with them then there's no harm in that since you are talking about them as delivery mechanisms, and in that respect they are both perfectly legal.

But if you place the article just to get targetted AdSense then you're violating their TOS, equally if you were suggesting illegal uses for either then you are again violating their TOS.

I'm suggesting a method with a disclaimer, it's a little sketchy, so would the rest of my site be at jeopardy even if I didn't use adsense ads on this page.

Basically, am I violating the TOS if I don't have their ads on a page that has questionable content on?
