There is another current thread [webmasterworld.com...] discussing blocking good payers for short periods in order to achieve ad rotation of regulars. I won't go as far as doing this myself, but I can see the sense in rotating ads.

In my main earning block, Google show the same two ads virtually all the time! This is made even more obvious by the fact they only ever show 2 ads in a block nowadays. A facility I'm not sure helps or hinders.

I'm not complaining, but I think it would be good to rotate the good payers around on a regular basis - especially as the thread above reports an increase in CTR by doing it.

What do others think, and Google, if you could implement it by next Monday it would be good. Ta.

Sounds like a great idea, never really thought about it before, blocking my regular ads.

On my main site, I have three very well targetted ads which I see almost constantly. Never even considered blocking one to see what pops up in its place!

Will give it a go tonight.

Nice to see thinking outside the square on this site, rather than the usual 'I got booted from Adsense what do I do' kinda post.

Cheers

I saw the same ads on my home page for a month or so .. Then next month , there were new ads ... I think , they rotate ads , but very slowly...

There could be complex issues relating to CTR, Smart Pricing , quality score and what not involved.

I'm finding that putting Yahoo ads on some of my pages helps give a better variety of ads. I'm trying Yahoo on content type pages that don't do as well CPC wise.

What I'd really like is a way to get Google to send me ads about the hobby widgeting rather than mass produced widgets. My people want patterns, materials and things like that.

On my site Google seem to do this already. However, they only rotate ads after 3 or 4 page displays or refreshes. I guess the rotation rate is set at what seems to work generally across all sites, but the optimum rate of rotation perhaps varies for each site, with the setting Google have chosen being the best average.

Perhaps the facility request ought to be for a variable to change the rate of rotation - ideally this could be a variable set at the time of generating the ad code, so we can vary the rotation by page or even ad block.

But we need to be careful about over-rotation. Repetition is an important principle in marketing and is one way of improving the chances of an appropriate ad being noticed (Google something like 'marketing repetition' for some articles on this topic).

I imagine this is most likely due to changing bids/budgets by the advertisers. I notice that my CTR tends to fall toward the end of the month and I attribute this to some of the better paying ads reaching their maximum budget.

Last night Adsense was showing 3 ads in a block. Ctr was up, as was income though epc was very marginally down. Not sure this proves anything though :)
