ad unit placement problem

Im planning to use 2 ad units in every page of my new site.
- One image banner ad in the header
- One large rect blend into the content

The banner ad would appear first in the html code, and I set the ad_type = "image", so only image ads would appear which would look better with my page design.

But Im curious, will the best bidding ad be wasted on the first ad unit? Or it would be ok and still shows in the 2nd ad unit?

I suppose the large rect will perform best. But the image banner would look nicer, and help to fill up the ad space.

Any comments?

There generally aren't very many image ads available through AdSense, so unless you are confident that there is a good supply in your area, only allowing image ads in that space could result in PSAs and/or a big reduction in earnings....
