Strange Myspace Traffic

When I checked my earnings today I noticed my earnings were nearly double the earnings I usually have. One of my sites got 10 times the traffic it usually has. I checked my logs and found out the surplus traffic all came from different myspace profiles. The site itself is a history site and has nothing to do with myspace.

Anybody knows what's going on? Should I be worried and contact Google about the Myspace traffic?

Grtz,

Dirk.

Are you sure the referrals are to actual pages or merely hot linking to images? Hotlinking is the most likely explanation.

Sign up for myspace and then enter the myspace profile URL into the browser and have a look at the referring pages.

My earnings nearly doubled, so they visit the page and click on ads.

I visited the pages, but couldn't fine a link to the site anywhere.

MySpace is an excellent source for traffic and more people should be taking advantage of it.

A lot of people never leave MySpace - MySpace has become their only source for whats going on on the internet. It is very important to target that demographic if you have a site that appeals to that crowd.

It is also possible that a Myspace user has pasted some of your content into his/her pages.

As a result, other Myspace members who view their profile, will see your links in the pasted material.

This has happened to me numerous times.

Yep, or maybe you had some info on your site which was provided as a link in MySpace. I had the same kind of traffic sometime back, but from Orkut though..
