Does Google allow adsense to be rotated with competitor?

Policies claim can't have them in conjunction

Anyone with experience here? I'd like to alternate adsense and a competing product - not on the page at the same time.

There is nothing in the TOS that prohibits this.

I'm curious as to why Google allows their ads to be rotated with competing text ads but doesn't allow competing text ads to be used as "alternate ads". Aren't these essentially the same thing?

Might have something to do with the fact that when showing a default the "google code" is in the page, but if it is rotated it more than likely won't be.

Might be a measurement to stop another program from taking a foothold. You know.... competitive measure.

Just guessing here.. :)

Are you sure that Google doesn't allow competing ads as alternates? I don't see that language anywhere in the TOS. In fact, it says that you can use an "image or ad server of your choice".

Others have asked Google and the responses they've received are that Google does not allow ads that mimic the look and feel of AdSense ads to be used as alternate ads in lieu of PSAs.

jcoronella -

You are indeed allowed to rotate AdSense with another competitor on your pages. The policy about competing ads wouldn't apply in this case, as you're not showing the AdSense ads at the same time as the competing ads.

Regarding alternate ads, you're welcome to place other content-targeted or text ads as your alternate ad selection as well. I think the only issue - and this doesn't just apply to alternate ads, but to the entire web - is that any ad you create yourself can't look like a Google ad. If you're in doubt as to whether your alternate ad is acceptable, the AdSense team is always happy to have a look.
