I do agree with the previous poster that if your site has articles that require some reading, to reduce eye strain use the traditional white background and black text. Remember also that some of your visitors may be colour blind, or may have poor sight. The traditional black text on white background is used by many people for a reason!
If there are going to be articles you want people to read, then you have to make it as easy as you can for them to be read. I really would stick with the traditional black text on white - it's what people expect and you can't go wrong. You can ad colour for site navigation and other page elements to make the page stand out / ads blend in as much as you want, but stick to the convention for the article text.
People really do like the conventions. I don't like the way links turn violet once visited. I think it messes up the page look, therefore I made them revert to the original unvisited colour. I got an email telling me that the site was hard to navigate as he couldn't remember what pages he'd seen and what ones he hadn't. So the moral is that what looks good to you might annoy the hell out of your visitors who are expecting your page to conform to conventions!
As regards blending the ads, it works for some but not others. Some people find that having ads that clearly stand out as ads works best for them. So I wouldn't be too fixed on exactly what you want to do just yet - experiment a little to find out what works best for you.
