BUT
isnt this a bit over the top when they provide blogger.com accounts with adsense? i mean COME ON people dont need a brain anymore to do anything and it goes out over us who actually have brains and do things by hand and who spend our lives on this.
just my daily rant..............
If you have an originally looking site, where you control all the layout, dynamic behaviour etc.., do you really think, these people are going to be able to compete with you?
I'm sure my visitors like the specific feel of my site. It's unique, it has it's own forum (the software for which I wrote myself), it's own member's area, etc.. Bottom-line: personalize your site, make it unique. People will recognize it, see it as something special and tell others about it.
Blogs seem like a pretty good way to micro-target a market. If the AdSense ads are relevant to the content, and more importantly, to the blog visitors, then it is sound business. I don't see how the amount of effort put forth by publishers/bloggers should factor into Google's decision.
In case you are wondering: I also operate a unique content website that has taken a lot of work to build.
people without the know-how shouldnt be able to make money, much less make web sites.
2: People with something to say will put up the best commentaries and blogs, and end up with something cool. So why NOT give them an AdSense account?
I think what's important is the content, so lowering the barrier to entry will help with that. Nothing greedy in that.
Everybody else, HTML enabled or not, will get filtered out by their spam detection.
Why are you worried about all these standardized webpages for people that have no clue about html and therefore have to rely on these ready made webtemplates? These things just attract thousands of bloggers, whose websites will all look identical.
Sven, you really don't get blogger do you?
Anyone can design a blogger template from scratch, they let you change the template any way you want, but why bother?
I use a blogger site at the moment and it's ugly and I don't care as it's a dumping ground for content. I don't need to worry about HTML (although I'm very good at it) because it's just a way to put content online and I'm more focused on getting the information out than making it pretty, could care less about pretty for that.
Now my money making websites, those are pretty ;)

You can have the prettiest site on the planet and if your content isn't up to par any blogger site on the planet could easily compete with you.
Don't confuse form with function or you're in for some major wake up calls.

Bill, I couldn't agree more with you. For me, content is king, really!

Sorry, didn't want to sound or be arrogant. Of course there is nothing wrong with using templates, tools, etc.. for people that don't want to waste time on creating their own templates, scripts, etc..., whether they know html/scripting/programming or not.
The OP seemed to be worried that nowadays people have it too easy with creating their own website. I disagree with that and think that if you come up with a unique idea (content or service) you might really need more knowledge than just how to setup a blogger.com website and that this knowledge and your own technology would distinguish you from a blogger.com kind of guy.
Bottom line: If you know how to do html/scripting/programming yourself, it will always be helpful and of possible advantage for you, whether there exist services like blogger.com or not.
