Does Adsense work well in adding a forum?

Does anyone have experience in adding a forum to their content-heavy website?

I am considering it, but would have to buy and install and upgrade, etc.

From what I've seen though, the best forums are those like this one (webmasterworld) that are stand-alone. Forums that are linked to existing content based sites don't seem to have that much traffic.

I was planning on putting my adsense on the new forum for additional income.

It seems more work and upkeep than it's worth though no?

Building a community is difficult - you need stickyness and patience. If your content-based website is regularly updated with new, fresh and unique content, then adding an (initially) small forum for discussion *can* give good results over time. Lots of time and effort are needed if you plan on doing this on your own though. See the forum community building [webmasterworld.com] section for more indepth discussion of this.

As for AdSense for forums, short answer: it isn't ideally suited. This thread [webmasterworld.com] should sort you out though.
