My first $100 day!

I have a hobby site at geocities. I never used it to make money but I have ruled the serps for close to five years now on this particular keyword. It only received 200-400 visitors/day.

Recently traffic spiked by a factor of 100. I quickly converted it to a paid geocities account and threw up some adsense.

It will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

What caused the traffic spike? Something you can capitalise on?

How can a particular serch term getting 200-400 a day to at least 20,000 searches a day? Unless of course, a major news event or something like that has happened, in which case the traffic may well be temporary.

I am only saying this because you say you ruled the SERPS for this particluar keyword. I take that to mean you have NO. 1 in the SERPS.

Yep, major news event. I had I had 43,000 page views yesterday. I expect it to tail off but I am updating pages to reflect progress of the event. Hopefully I can target more related searches.

After the tail off I think traffic will still be higher than usual and then I also anticipate another spike late in the Summer.

I had this once, about a month ago. One search term i was listed under received some publicity so for about 24 hours my traffic went up 10x. I got close to $100/day. i think my bandwidth was around 12gig/day too. Totally crazy. Although even with unique visitors going up 10 times, the earnings only went up by a factor of 3.

Thats excellent! It just goes to show that people can make money as long as they get traffic to their site. Those that are making only a few dollars a day can take inspiration from these type of posts.
