I'm new here but have lurked for a while picking up tips. Now I have a question, have any of you counted the clicks in your channels, and compared them to what the overview page shows? I show more clicks in the small list of channeled pages from my site then what is showing in the overview. If I channeled all the pages I'm wondering if there a lot more clicks that I'm not seeing. Is this because of some delayed reaction, or maybe someone is double clicking on an ad?
Thanks for the welcome, this site is really great. I have discovered something about my clicks, my web page is a PostNuke site that uses blocks where I place adsense. It seems for yesterday that the clicks are only registering on the front page, and not the whole site. At least the numbers of clicks in my channels for the first page is the same as the number of clicks I got paid for. There are about twice as many clicks when you add up the other channels for that day that don't show in the overview.
I checked my clicks in both the channels and overview for April 3rd "the day before" and they don't add up either. It actually shows more clicks in the overview then in the channels by a small amount. I'm thinking maybe there is just a delay in when the clicks register? Or is it possibly a reason related to placing the ads on a PostNuke site? I've read about timing out issues in PHPbb2 and Adsense. Just a wild guess this might be related.
I'll wait until the end of the month and add up all the clicks in my channels and compare them to the paid clicks. I'm hoping there is some logical explination.
If you are only using URL channels, there may be overlap if one is the root domain and one is a part of the same domain.
If you are NOT using URL channels and have only named channels then I can't explain why that would be the casse if the difference is substantial (as a little divergence here and there is normal).
Whenever I'm impatient and want to see Google's latest accounting of impressions, clicks, revenue, etc., here's what I do:
1. I log into Adsense and click the "Advanced Reports" link.
2. Then, in the "Choose date range" section, I just pick a date from a few days ago for the first (left) section, and use today's date for the second (right) section.
3. Click the "Display Report" button.
4. Scroll down to the bottom to display today's data.
About half the time, the data down there is more recent than the data on the Overview page.
I don't know if this is related to what you're reporting, but it might be since it's obvious that Google updates different sections on different pages at different times.
My channels are only URL's, I have no named channels. So that can't be the reason, it makes sense though. In my channels from yesterday the amount of earnings shows up nearly twice as what shows up in the advanced final search for yesterday using the "This Month By Day" link. So if there is a delay I think it would have shown up by now.
I thought that maybe I was adding up the numbers under eCPM by mistake instead of under Earnings. But no, I definitely added up the right numbers. It's a mystery. My site's pretty large and adding a channel to each page is near impossible, especially since I utilize AdSense in my forums. It would be hard to track the problem down on my end. I might see if someone from google can look into it.
I got a speedy reply surprisingly from google. I wasn't expecting that. I asked them the same question as I asked here, and this is their reply:
"When you're viewing channel reports, the
data for all your URL and custom channels may show a larger number of page
impressions, clicks and earnings than the aggregate data for the same date
range. This is because some impressions and clicks may be tracked on both
a URL and a custom channel or on multiple URL channels. For example,
impressions and clicks on a URL channel for domain.com/site would also be
tracked on a URL channel for domain.com.
To view the overall performance of your account, visit your 'Advanced
Reports' page, select the 'Aggregate Data' radio button, and click
'Display Report.' This will include all clicks, page impressions and
earnings from your account with no duplication of data.
Keep in mind, however, that while the Advanced Reports page shows data for
AdSense for content and AdSense for search separately, the Overview page
shows the combined total of both products, so the totals on your Advanced
Reports page may differ from those on the Overview page."
