What if people leave comments that violates Google adsense terms and conditions i.e. obscene comments.

I notice that MySpace has had to remove 200,000 profiles recently. If Myspace used Adsense, they would be removed instantly.

I think Google would LOVE to have MySpace as a publisher. There may be the occasional offensive profile, but for the most part, that's an advertising gold mine.

I think the reason they don't use Google ads is because they get paid MUCH MUCH more doing direct advertising or going through other companies.

If Google applies the same rules for all publishers then MySpace would have no chance. There is a ton of offensive material on MySpace i.e. enciting racial hatred, sexual material, violance, etc. A small publisher would not be accepted on those terms.

Something I just noticed, too...

MySpace does use contextual based ads, just not Google. I just logged in to check. One person was talking about going back to school to get her masters and, sure enough, there were ads for all those online universities offering their masters programs.

I'm not sure exactly what company is behind it, it seems like the ads are coming from revsci.net, which after a google search turns up this:

Revenue Science is the leader in behavioral targeting - a solution that allows advertisers to target consumers based on past behaviors for increased brand ...

MySpace does use Google adsense. I've seen it couple times. You might not get it each time you few a page but it is included in their banner rotator. I'm sure that Google got them hooked up and they dont really care about the TOS. If that was anyone else they would be banned. 90% of Myspace would violate adsense TOS.

Does anyone know a good way to add a comment section to a website? Besides Myspace?
Is there any good code for this?

I am sure there are scripts out there that you can add simply by pasting a code.

I've always wondered about this. I've seen sites running adsense with user-driven content that definitely violates the terms. I wonder how these sites got accepted in the first place, how they remain active, and if their owners even care about the TOS violations. It would seem they don't.

Until now, any site of mine with user-driven content AND adsense does not let the content go live without first being manually approved. I wonder if it's worth the extra effort when Google obviously doesn't care.

Google obviously doesn't care

Why do people always say this? You might as well argue that nobody REALLY reports every bit of income and yet few people get sent to prison for this. Thus the IRS obviously doesn't care.

The IRS runs tax returns through an algorithm to flag possible violations. If you get flagged, expect an audit. It would be so easy for Google to automate a check for content violations and flag obvious offendors. By the way, don't other programs (CJ for example) already do this?

The way I see it:
Could do something about it, but chooses not to = Doesn't care

Surely you're aware that Google does do this. We've all seen lots of reports of Google sending warnings or banning sites outright.

I'd agree Google should allocate MORE resources to this issue, but the idea that they don't do anything or don't care about violations is clearly false.

Google does care but when it comes to MySpace i dont think they do. MySpace is the fastest growing website on the planet right now...advertising with myspace is like winning a lottery.
