I was just wondering if anyone here promotes their site and increases their traffic by paying for links or banners on other sites? If so what do you pay and how has this worked out for you?

I've thought of doing this, but then of course you have the risk that you pay for the clicks or links and thne no one visits anyway. I have not tried this and I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to earning money off adsense, so I could be totally wrong in my assumptions here. I finally decided to wait until I had enough organic traffic for sites to pay me a little money and then look at investing part of it back into the site in the form of paid links, etc.. I would also be interested in hearing what some of the more experienced people in this area think.
