Hello
Just looking for your advice.
My phpbb display ads now via overall_header and footer.
My CTR its 0.9%,from this what i read its normal for phpbb.
But from 3-4 days i think to make change and start display ads on index, viewforum and viewtopic only.
This will make my impressions drop but maybe can get better CTR and eCPM.
What you think?
Has any one try it?
Thanks

Unless you place adverts after the first post in viewtopic I doubt you will see an improvement.

0.9% seems very high for phpbb, my experience is more like .09%.

But the more aggresively you place adverts on a forum, the more annoyed your users may be.

You can get pretty decent clickthrough rates on forums also. There are many thread on that here. I personally get about 4-5%.
Just to get you started:

*Don't show ads to logged in members
*Show ads right before the post. Preferable a leaderboard.
*Don't show ads on all page views. Use a cookie to show ads one out of ten times.

Why not?

Cause people who visit your website very often tend to skip the ads. It will add up to thousands of impressions with very few clicks and will reduce your ECPM and clickthrough rate.

I've learnt most of the stuff here and by experimenting. Try out new things, read the old threads [the library is a good place to start].

"*Don't show ads to logged in members"
Why not?

1. Because they typically see the same ads over and over and don't click them anyway.

2. Because some may get the idea that they'll click an ad every now and then just to "help out" and give you some revenue.

3. Because they're creating content for you, and will appreciate "ad-free" use of the forum, building loyalty at little cost to you.

Can't say i'm convinced by the don't show to members logic.

I'm neither convinced by not showing ads to logged in users.

Okay, Impressions go down and CTR and ECPM increase, but a click is a click and is $. What's the use of increasing the CTR but lowering the earnings?
